Bamboo Forest - Arashiyama, Japan

This is the Bamboo Forest in Arashiyama, Japan. It's amazingly beautiful, and the tourists and people who visit it are pretty fun to watch too. Rickshaws and people wheeling their luggage (I don't know why) seem to fill the path.

Otherwise, the Bamboo is just amazing to see. Some species of bamboo can grow 3 feet in 24 hours! Bamboo grows by send out rhizomes under the ground and sprouting upward, even though they do flower infrequently – sometimes up to 100 years between flowerings. Bamboo is known to be ‘invasive' but most of us only see bamboo in a small pot. This is what it looks like when it is allowed to flourish.

Sometimes it's just fun to watch all the tourists as well. This path is quite long and just seeing real bamboo up close and so big is amazing!
